A Double Golden Shovel taken from two lines of Elizabeth Willis’s “The Witch”
Roasting Frogs
she who flies on a broom
may be a menopausal witch and
appear mad, may fly off the handle
to make her point, or be stewing ~
frown at those who’ve sickened her;
when her coven is hungry at six,
she dons her hat, fluffs the fringe ~
believes she smells a ready scent, so
she gathers her potions of magic - she
is busily carving the roasting frogs,
smiling as her family devours the meat
